To whom it may concern,
On January 26,1997 the San Jose Mercury News, printed an article regarding the Main Public Library in San Francisco.
One sentence caught my attention and raised my concern enough to make me sit down and write to you.
In January 1988 I inquired about books on “German Immigration to California,” and in particular the San Francisco Bay area.
A lady by the name of Kathryn Orrell was so kind and mailed me a letter (copy enclosed) as well as photocopies of 53 catalog cards about books dealing with this subject.
A friend of mine typed the information of each photocopy on new cards and made a poster out of them. These posters were displayed many times throughout the Bay Area along with other material pertaining to the subject:” German Pioneers in the San Francisco Bay Area.”
I am sending you copies of these book titles so you can see which books are causing my concern. I pray to God that they have not landed in the dumpster and are still part of the Main Library.
Should the library ever consider selling some or all of these books, I would be willing to buy them. I would go hungry to save these books.
Please, get in touch with me, I am sending you a self addressed, stamped envelope to make it easier to reply. I am anxious to hear from you.
Thank you
Maria Brand
